Nick: Arrived at Scouter Bill’s house around 8:00pm. Went over maps and gear and made bailers. Prepared snacks and watched Armageddon. Went to bed around 1;30 (so did Scouters Joe, Janice, and Bill.) Scott Shayne and I stayed up all night.

Shayne: Friday night we went to Scouter Bill’s house so that we could check our packs over. After we did that we went over our map so that we could follow it.

Scott: Friday: Arrived at Scouter Bill’s house around 8:15. Went through pack. Watched Armageddon. Had chips and pop. Pierre switched the glasses and I tasted the difference between pepsi and coke. Went down and played cards.

Shayne: We played some game of janitor. Then we played a game of crazy countdown.

Scott: At 12:00 played family feud. At 2 played monopoly until 3:30. Pierre went to bed. Nick, Shayne and I tried to go to sleep, but couldn’t. At 5:00 started to play go fish. On the second game Nick went upstairs and got 3 banana muffins. At 6 Dan woke up. Started to clean up so we did not get in trouble.

Sat. Apr 18/99-

Dan: Got up at 6:00 had breakfast. Shayne, Scott, Nick and Pierre fell asleep on the way up. Stopped McDonalds at Cookstown.

Nick: For breakfast we ate scrambled eggs, banana and blueberry muffins, sausages, coffee, fruit punch and bacon. Bob and Trudy arrived around 7:00am. We started to load the trailer at 7:15. We left Scouter Bill’s house at 7:30. Scott, Shayne, Dan and I played janitor on the way to the Gibson River. We also saw road kill. Once at the Gibson River we unpacked the trailer and loaded up the canoes.

Shayne: I tried to grab a rope from mine and Danny’s boat and I slipped in and it was cold. Then I had to change.

Nick: Once Shayne was changed and repacked Scouter Bill and Bob took the vehicles to our parking spot, meanwhile Scouter Janice and Trudy went over some paddling techniques. We were on the water at 1:30 pm.

Shayne: When we had canoed for a while we came up to a bunch of fast going rapids and then we portaged them. It was hard work taking our stuff up the hill. Then we put all our stuff in the canoe. Then we took off and the next set of rapids we went over because it wasn’t that bad.

Nick: Shayne and Dan had some trouble on the water so we switched the canoe pairs to Scouter Bill and Shayne and Scouter Janice and Dan.

Shayne: When we were having a break, we were looking at our maps. We went farther and then we looked at our maps again.

Scott: We were going to camp at a spot but there were people there. Canoed for another 30 min. We found another campsite.

Dan: Got to the campsite at 5:30 pm. Set up campsite, had supper (hamburgers).

Shayne: Then we put our bear bag up in a tree so that nothing could get it.

Scott: Everyone went to bed really early.

Sun. April 22 /99-

Dan: Got up at 6:40 am. Had breakfast, which was pancakes.

Scott: Nick and I was the last people up. I cooked pancakes. Nick did not like them.

Nick: On Sunday morning Bob wanted to be out on the water at 8:00, but we didn’t get out until 9:30 am. ( The scouts didn’t get up until 8:00.) Our campsite was pretty nice and spacious.

Scott: We canoed for a bit, then we had to portage for 25 m. I got my feet wet.

Shayne: I slipped in the water but only my foot got wet. Then about 15 to 20 min. we had to portage, because it was a waterfall. We took a picture of us in front of it.

Nick: On one of our portages I slipped and my left foot went into water, but luckily I pulled it out before water got in my boot.

Shayne: After that we got in our canoe and we looked at our maps. Then we got into the bay and we paddled for a while and we looked at our maps.

Nick: When we got out on the water it was windy. On one of our many gorp breaks, we were talking about how lucky we were that we came and how bad Scouter Hub must feel that he didn’t get to come on our canoe trip. After the big bay we came up to a wooden cross. Scott and I had a little trouble landing the canoe. We had to portage 10 m to where we had lunch.

Dan: Got to the shrine at 2:15 and had lunch (sandwiches). Then had scouts own.

Nick: We canoed 600 m to our campsite. It was nicer and more spacious than the last.

Dan: Got to the other campsite by 3:00 pm. Set campsite up. The leaders washed their hair.

Scott: We had hot dogs. Nick wanted to go to bed at 7:30, but wee would not let him. We went to bed at 815. We were not the last people up this time.

Dan: Went to bed at 9:30 pm. and I was warm but I couldn’t get to sleep.

Mon. April 18 /99-

Dan: Got up at 6:00 am. I got the bear bag down and got the fire going without matches.

Nick: Monday morning our breakfast consisted of pancakes or should I say rock cakes and bacon. I also had some oatmeal and some juice.

Scott: Had Mr. Noodles for lunch at the falls. We got to the van at 1:30 pm.

Nick: We canoed the rest of the way with no problems. We arrived at the access point, then we changed.

Shayne: Scouter Bill and Bob went to get Bob’s car. When we were waiting we took our picture in front of a sign. After we had our picture in front of the trailer.

Dan: We arrived at Cookstown at 3:00 pm. We had a snack and then we left. It started to rain. At 4:20 the sun came out. At 4:30 it started to hail. We arrived at Scouters Bill, Janice and Joe’s at 6:30 pm.
