Union Marsh Survivor Camp

Funkalupogous Tribe Log

Friday night: Setting up camp. Deciding on exquisite tent site immediately to get done before dark. We cleverly found a picnic table shaped tree, and conveniently placed for our use.

Later: The girls have still not arrived, but they’re not to be blamed as Scouter Mark is their leader. Patrick La. and Brian P. have just begun to set up their shelter.

Saturday Morn.: After a well rested night, all of us are stumbling out of bed to meet a grey cloudy sky. Patrick was first out of bed, followed by myself, and I can hear the girls. We light the fire, and the camp stove, and the water should be nicely boiled by the time we eat. Oatmeal is set as our breakfast this AM and I am rapidly awaiting it!! Slight difficulties with the fire, Scouter Bill kinda opened our fuel stuff, and after this little expedition we’re ready to go.

Quiz. We won!!

Lunch: For lunch today we had kraft dinner, it was good.

Afternoon: In the afternoon we did an obstacle course, it was fun, and almost all our balloons survived, the tribe was really enthusiastic.

Rescue Mission: Well, we were the last ones back, but we had fun……Patrick La was really heavy, but the trek down to the beach & back was good. Even though we lost, we kept our spirits up.

Night: We skipped commandos, because everyone was too tired. We made hotdogs for dinner, roasted over the fire, put on buns with the absence of spreads, however, no one complained. Later, we played Mystery food, and I must admit the leaders came up with some pretty creative names. (The Scouters called this a Food Challenge) Kira ate some gross food, and Laura was extremely brave whilst eating her piece of "Raccoon eyeballs" aka….onion. Speckle (Brian d) ate a big clump of liverwurst too…..yuck.

Everyone went to bed by one, but before, we sang a few good old camp songs. I pity the people who were trying to sleep, as we weren’t much in the way of lullabies.

WE WON THE "ART"!! Score: 44 to 39!

Sun. Morn.: Breakfast: We all woke up and cursed the geese for their endless honking. I awoke first followed by Kira and Laura, and the boys. We attempted to make fried potatoes and bacon for breakfast, but gave up after the first plate of potatoes and decided to grill the bacon on a real fire. We gave "Art" back to the leaders, as it can be returned to the museum before they realize it was gone. The troop tisked at Scouter Dan for leaving his garbage behind, and mocking us with thoughts of a furnace and a warm bed.

Everyone then got packed up and we held a very thoughtful Scout’s Own. I think Scouter Mark should join the choir at my church too – WHAT A VOICE. We are now awaiting closing.

THOUGHTS:

Kira: It was a lot of fun, I’d definitely want to do this again. The food game was my favourite! Yummy…OYSTERS!! I think I should be a C.T.D. (crash test dummy) for ziplines!

Laura: Great fun, but I still liked the last winter camp more. I really liked the obstacle course!

Speckle (Brian d): I liked being Speckle, but favourite game was commandos and free time! I’d just like to say….Speckle was a lonely boy, without many friends…..until he joined scouts.

Patrick La: My favourite activity at camp was free time as well, because I could keep warm at the fire. I really disliked the shelter and next time will bring my own drinks. And by the way, I was the first one up again this morning, I was up trying to get warm!

Brian P: absent…he should have been writing this…

Roberta: I enjoyed this camp profusely!, as did everyone else I’m sure; even though some more than others. I think my favourite part of this camp was our team cheer. Even though we were losing and tired, and bored, we always found the enthusiasum for it. Also, I like our flag. Even though it also served multiple purposes and was dirty, we flew it with pride. Congratulations Team!

p.s. I know where the north star is now!!

Thanx: Roberta.

Wassaby Tribe Log

I was first to arrive at our campsite along with Cameron.  Once all of our tribe had arrived we started setting up camp.  We tied a rope from two trees, then placed a very large tarp over it.  We placed big cement blocks at the ends of the tarp to keep it from blowing away.  We put a  tarp on the bottom to lie on.  After we got the lantern and stove working we went to
bed. In the morning we had eggs and bacon.  Some didn't like the bacon because it wasn't crispy.  We had our first challenge afterwards, a trivia challenge.  We lost by one point.  The next challenge was an obstacle course.  It had a zip line, logs to balance on, something that looked like a jungle gym to climb, a swinging log, and finally a fire lighting competition, only two members of my tribe lit a fire strong enough to brake the rope.  We lost this challenge by four points. We had lunch after, and we had grilled cheese sandwiches. We then had another challenge. At first we didn't know what the point of it was but later on realized that it was a rescue mission. ( I was the injured person !) Both teams received the same amount of points. After this challenge  we had free time,  then had supper.  Our tribe had stew and steak.  That night we had our last challenge, which was an eating challenge. Some of the foods included : Seagull Intestine, possum liver, racoon eyeball, and bear bar to name a few. Our tribe lost due to the fact that some of our tribe members couldn't swallow their food!   That night we socialized then went to a nice somewhat warm bed. In the morning we ate quick, took down camp, did Scouts own, took down the flag then went off to home. Even though our team lost by just points, I think our tribe still had fun.
