On December 12, 1999, the Bayfield and Zurich Scouts hiked the Lake
Trail at Wildwood Conservation Area by St. Marys. We all met in Hensal
at about 8:00 am. and we left for Wildwood. Almost right after we arrived
we started identifying the variety of trees there was to be found, becaus
that was one of the main things we were to do on our hike. In order to
get to the main part of the trail we had to walk on a very narrow path
with many rocks below us. When we finally reached the trail we had to be
careful not to step on some ice that was there so we wouldn't slip into
some very pointy bushes. After a very long hike we finally found the bridge
that we would stop to eat our lunch on. Overlooking the frozen water you
could se a lot of the forest that we had yet to cover. After a good filling
lunch we started up again, but to our surprise the trail had been closed
due to a logging operation (not the log I'm doing, but real logs) so we
had to hike on the beach. I found a very strange rock on the ground. It
looked like some old piece of coral when you looked on the bottom, but
if you just looked at it from the side you'd think it was just an ordinary
rock. Well anyway after a while we found a path to the trail past the logging,
so we then continued our journey in the forest. When we finally arrived
back at the parking lot, we were all very tired from the hike. We then
wound out that we had hiked around 12 MILES! that day, no wonder we were
tired. So that evening we all drove home feeling quite good about what
we had done.
