Bayfield and Zurich Scouts Mystery Tour

Saturday February 20, 1999 the Bayfield and Zurich scouts gathered at the Zurich Public School at 7:00 pm. We brought our gear into the school then went to the Zurich fire hall at 7:10pm. We were shown the rescue van by Dale. We left the Zurich fire hall at 7:30 pm and we arrived at the Dashwood fire hall at 7:40 pm. We were shown the fire truck by Pat. We left at 8:00 pm. Tim, an animal trapper, showed us how to set a snare for emergency only. 8:55 pm we went to Gerry the astronomy guy. We looked at the moon, orion's belt, and the 7 sisters. Then we left. 9:20 Hill and Hill Elevators. After weighing our troop we learned the corn drying process. We arrived at Harold dairy barn. We saw how cows are milked and the milk is stored. We also saw the calves in the other barn. At 10:45 we arrived at Bayfield Works Department. We saw the snowplow in operation, then we enjoyed Lord Baden-Powell's and Joe's birthday cake. 11:25 pm we went to Goderich OPP. Sheila got cuffed then we went to see the mug shots. We also got locked up, but they let us out because of good behaviour. At midnight we went to the drop in center called the Cave. We were told that any youth could drop in and have fun. At 12:30 we arrived at Oesch Woodworking. He showed us a spiraling staircase and kitchen cabinets for northlander. Then we arrived at Rowcliffe Trucking. John showed 3 big trucks that were in the garage. The Volvo was by far the best. Then we left for Tim Hortons and we got behind because the food was soooo good, and we got a tour of Tim Hortons. We should have arrived at country Corner's Rental at 2:35, but we were a bit late and got there at about 2:50. We saw some tools that they rent out to people and how they repair them. We arrived at DMC and Dan showed us how he makes things out of stainless steel. Thank you Dan for the mini screw drivers. We arrived at Zurich Public School at 4:05 am and watched Independance Day. 20 scouts and leaders showed up, 7 fell asleep and the rest stayed up. Jamie and Bill said they stayed up but got their picture taken with their eyes squinting. At 7:00 we went to another feed mill at the Zurich Co-op. Larry gave us a tour of how medication and grains were made into pellets and packaged. 7:30 we went to the Hay Telephone Switching Station. We learned that the Y2K bug was very expensive. Also, Terry showed us the back-up system for if the power went out. We'd also like to thank Terry for giving us a tour and a pen. We went back to the school at 7:55 for the parents to pick us up.
